Responsible Data Science Project

With the onset of COVID-19 affecting hundreds of thousands globally, I wanted to explore how cultural aspects play a role in the rate of infection and the spread of the virus. In addition, I used COVID-19 data, in order to perform time series forecasting and predict peak projections. The goal of this project was to study the effects of social distancing and government intervention factors on the spread of the curve of COVID-19. I want to learn from the forecasted models whether my forecast assumptions were valid by comparing those two methods of modeling a pandemic. As a result of which I could gain insights from countries that have already experienced a peak in confirmed cases and learn whether social distancing and government intervention factors work, in order to help other countries minimize the rate of infection.

MS CS Student
University of California - Santa Cruz

MS- Computer Science Student at UCSC.
Teaching Assistant at CSE Dept.

Teaching Assitant for the course Applied Discrete Mathematics at UCSC.
June 2018 - July 2019
Research Intern
RAIT (UNIVERSITY OF MUMBAI)
Joined research work with my professor at RAIT after B.E. final semester. This work aimed at simulating an intelligent Savitzky Golay (SG) filter which can automatically adjust its parameters in accordance with the changes in sampling or cut off frequency. The filter is implemented on signals obtained from Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) device using Genetic Algorithm and Particle Swarm Optimization techniques, used to tune the parameters of SG filter leading to GA-SGF and PSO-SGF filters. The work led to acceptance of our technical paper titled "Denoising of Continuous Glucose Monitoring signal with Adaptive SG Filter" by the international conference Soft Computing Theories and Applications (SoCTA 2018) for oral presentation and publication in Springer published AISC book series.
Jan 2018 - June 2018
Research Intern
INNOVATIONS LAB (TCS)
Worked on advanced Human Computer Interface (HCI) system for determining aesthetics of the human gestures. Developed a software application to analyze the gesture using the Kinect sensor. The project used Machine Learning based feature extraction techniques for determining aesthetic of a gesture.
Summer 2017
Intern
IIT GUWAHATI (IIT-G)
Implemented a triphone based ASR system for Marathi (an Indian language) speech using Hidden Markov Model Toolkit (HTK). The project used the concepts of Hidden Markov Model (HMM) and Deep Learning.
Winter 2016
Intern
IIT BOMBAY (IIT-B)
Programmed an Arduino based Gesture Controlled Robot to recognize complex 3D hand gestures using a motion sensor (MPU-6050). Continued the internship for my undergraduate B.E. Final year project.
Summer 2015 and 2016
Intern
Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR)
Studied speech fundamentals, state-of-the-art tools and techniques for Automated Speech Recognition (ASR) and Pattern Recognition. Designed and implemented a software program in R for word based ASR using Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) and Cepstrum analysis to extract Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC).
